“Venezuelan held with $M cocaine”

A Venezuelan will appear before a Point Fortin Magistrate charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Alejandro Tapiero Hernandez 27, of Venezuela, was arrested by officers of the Penal Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) on Tuesday.

The officers were on surveillance along Boleau Beach Road, Icacos Village, Cedros, when they observed a man disembark from a white boat along the shoreline with a black and grey knapsack and walk towards a bushy area.

The officers stopped the man, conducted a search and discovered ten packets of cocaine, wrapped in layers of clear and black plastic and one black and silver Taurus pistol fitted with a loaded magazine containing five rounds of .380mm ammunition.

The drug has a total weight of 10.8 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of TT$4.3 million.

Hernandez was in Trinidad illegally.
