The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) has launched an investigation into the deaths of two women, who died days apart after receiving medical care at the Scarborough General Hospital.
Petronella Neptune and Tricia King were both employees of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Dr Agatha Carrington, expressed sadness by the women’s deaths.
Nepune died on January 5, and King on January 10.
Carrington added, “These deaths have impacted the entire island and the management and staff of the Division of Health Wellness and Family Development and the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA), extend sincere condolences to the family and entire Tobago community.”
Carrington has also mandated the management of TRHA to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The findings from this investigation will be used to ascertain the level of care delivered to both clients and inform the necessary corrective actions to be taken (if any), to avoid any future occurrences, it stated.
She added, “This is an incredibly sad time for us all, but together, we continue to strive for the best delivery in our health care services on the Island.”
Carrington said: “A preliminary report on both deaths was received from the Management of the TRHA, which prompted the Secretary’s request for a comprehensive investigation. The investigation will be conducted by a panel of external Specialist Medical Officers in Internal Medicine.”
