If economist Dr Terrence Farrell could walk away from the People’s National Movement (PNM), then something is wrong. No sooner had the PNM was returned to Government in 2015, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley appointed Farrell as Chairman of Economic Advisory Board.
That is the Board to advise the Government and the Minister of Finance on the financial way forward. But after two years of ole talk, Farrell has quit with immediate effect. A slap in the face of the Prime Minister and his Government.
What can Rowley do but to accept the resignation on Wednesday.
When the truth comes out the people would see who frustrated the leading economist, to make him walk away with immediate effect.
Rowley thanked Farrell for the many reports and letters concerning the work of the Economic Development Advisory Board, which were considered in making the critical, hard, decisions that were indispensable for the country’s long term economic survival. “The economy, over the last two years had been managed with a steady hand, making adjustments along the way and the country’s future is now much more hopeful,” the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister appreciated the invaluable service to the country made by Dr. Farrell and wishes him only the best.
But Farrell issued his own release saying he resigned because he was not satisfied with the progress of the Board over the past two years. He was not able to get the Board’s recommendations implemented.
