This was revealed following an autopsy on Thursday.
Police said they suspect the child was hit after the bullet that struck her uncle, Gregory Harracksingh, in the arm, ricocheted and struck her as she was in her uncle’s arms.
The shooting occurred as Harracksingh was arguing with the suspect, a soldier, who had gone to the Harracksingh family’s Sangre Grande house to visit his daughter.
Police said the soldier, 29, remains in custody. According to reports, the soldier went to the house at Paul Street to see his daughter, Soriah. But when he was refused, there was an argument.
Investigators were told that the soldier pulled out his weapon and fired a shot at Harracksingh, who was wounded. Soriah fell out his hands.
She was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where she died.
