In a space of four days, the country’s longest-serving actor and by far, the most incompetent individual to ever head the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Stephen Williams makes the two pronouncements which gained front-page headliners, the Significant decline in violent crimes and T&T not in crisis.
Is Williams using reverse psychology on the population or is he continuing as an extension of the Rowley-led Administration, a bunch of political misfits ever to occupy the corridors of Government in Trinidad and Tobago.
In Trinidad and Tobago where apparently, anything gives, such statements seemed to be allowed without any repercussions; it’s as though that not only are the politicians being constantly allowed such mediocrity, job performance, and zero credibility but it is transferring onto the other agencies of the State.
Surely Williams has to be in denial of the crime statistics and evidence on hand and when the country top cop is perceived to be in that mode, that’s a frightening scenario.
But then, Williams may have decided to follow the lead of his Minister, Edmond Dillon.
With an absolutely straight face, National Security Minister Edmund Dillon told the House of Representatives on Friday that, “While there is evidence that there is human trafficking in TT, there is no concrete evidence at this point to support that there exists a thriving human trafficking network.”
There is evidence but there is no concrete evidence!
Is this the PNM’s version of “Alternate Facts”?
Dillon keeps playing smart with stupidness knowing that he can insult the intelligence of the population and the media is not challenging this incompetent and bankrupt administration on these most idiotic statements.
Perhaps this is why there are no solutions being sought or pursued as the alarming and worrying crime rate continues to spiral out of control; the Minister of National Security and the Head of the Police Service have fallen for their own propaganda, i.e., T&T is not in a crisis and despite what any statistics or data is showing, there is a significant decline in violent crimes.
Citizens are living in constant fear of this nuclear explosion of violence and insecurity continues to climb and causing havoc on society.
Yes, citizens are speaking out and naturally are afraid for their security. But there comes a time when just speaking out and hoping “for the best” just will not do.
