A second victim in the New Year’s morning shooting in Enterprise, Chaguanas, has died.
Brandon Khan, alias Chinee, became the first murder victim for 2018.
Five others were shot. On Wednesday, one of the other victims, Nazim “Randy” Mahabub of Enterprise, Chaguanas, succumbed to his injuries.
Mahabub, 24, was one of five people, who was shot and wounded shortly after four after midnight on New Year’s Day at Goodwill Street.
Mahabub, who worked as a security guard at a private security firm, was warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex succumbed to his injuries at about 11 am.
According to a police report, a group of young people in the area was just liming at a village parlour when gunmen approached them and opened fire.
It is believed that Khan was the target of the gunmen.
In another incident, Anton Alleyne, 26, of Dove Avenue, was standing on the roadway with his girlfriend, Akera Charles, 21 and his friend, Tariq King, 20, at about 8.10 pm at Lisas Gardens, Couva, when a white Tiida pulled up alongside them.
The occupants opened fire shooting all three. Alleyne, a security guard, slumped to the side of the road in front a food outlet where he died.
Charles and King were both taken to the Couva District Hospital where they were treated for gunshot wounds.
Police said they believed that the shooting was connected to the December 27, 2017, murder of Isaiah Trevor Mitchell.
Mitchell, 19, was fatally shot when gunmen began firing wildly at patrons of an all-night private pool party that took place near Deonarine Junction, Mc Bean Village, Couva. That incident occurred at about 6.30 am.
