Oropouche East MP, Dr Roodal Moonilal, has come to the rescue of a family whose house was destroyed by a driver under the influence of alcohol.
On December 9, at around 6 pm, tragedy struck for the Ragbir family of Wellington Road, Debe – a family of eight, including four children. A private car driven by someone under the influence of alcohol crashed into their small dwelling home and completely destroyed the brick wall at the front of their home. With such a crash, debris and rubble flew ten feet within a small living room area, destroying the home, furniture, appliances and pray room area.
Luckily, no member of the Ragbir family, including the very small children were at home at the time.
Moonilal immediately dispatched his office staff to look at the devastation. Moonilal then visited the scene and toured the damaged areas. Expressing shock but thanks that no one was injured, Moonilal pledged to assist the family with building materials to reconstruct their home before Christmas. Moonilal indicated that such help was required immediately while the government agencies work on emergency support.
By Saturday December 16, the Ragbir family welcomed a donation of building materials donated by Debe businessmen and co-ordinated by Moonilal. Reconstruction work has started and the family expects to be in their home by Christmas .
