Has the government deliberately selected a weak negotiating team for discussions with billionaire businessman “Butch” Stewart on setting up a Sandals resort in Tobago?
That question is being asked by keen observers who have scrutinised the committee selected to negotiate with the skilled and seasoned businessman.
Apart from investment banker Wendell Mottley, the composition of the team is essentially made up of nominal figures, observers have pointed.
There are also low-level representatives of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has publicly indicated his government eagerness in having the Sandals brand in Tobago.
That declaration has been made even before formal discussions on the project, leading some to state that negotiations have been compromised.
Several people have signed a petition against the project.
They are especially opposed to the use of the prime No Man’s Land area.
