Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, announced on Thursday that Parliament will meet on December 7 to discuss the Election and Boundaries Commission’s (EBC) report regarding the twelve (12) boundaries in Tobago.
Following the approval of the report, President Anthony Carmona will then announce Tobago’s local election date. The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) has already been dissolved and, by law, the election must be held within ninety (90) days of the dissolution.
Rowley was speaking at Thursday’s post-cabinet press briefing.
Rowley also announced that Trinidad and Tobago have been engaged in some very far-reaching discussions with Venezuela regarding the provision of natural gas. Discussions surround commercial users of natural gas in Trinidad and Tobago accessing and processing natural gas from Venezuela’s fields.
The two nations are now in a position to sign a Government to Government agreement and outline the commercial structure which will facilitate access to Venezuela’s Dragon Gas Field.
The details of the agreement, which seeks to present medium to long term solutions to recurrent gas shortages in Trinidad and Tobago, will be made public after signing.
Rowley will travel to Venezuela for one day next Monday to proceed with the arrangement. The Trinidad and Tobago delegation will include representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs. Members of the media will also be in attendance and representatives of SHELL will meet the delegation in Caracas, Venezuela.
