One shot dead, four wounded in Santa Cruz

One man was shot and killed and four others wounded in a shooting incident in Santa Cruz on Saturday night.

The dead man was identified as Jerome Julien, 21, of  Sam Boucaud, Santa Cruz.

The shooting occurred around 11pm in the Sam Boucaud area.

Julien was liming with a group of friends and relatives when they were approached by another group.

There was a confrontation between the two parties following which shots were fired.

The three assailants from the second group then fled the scene.

The five wounded men were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were treated.

However, Julien died while he was being operated upon.

Santa Cruz Police, with the assistance of the Homicide Bureau, are investigating. The murder toll stands at 280 for the year.
