A mentally-ill man was shot dead by police in Diego Martin on Thursday.
Paul Marchand was an outpatient of the St Ann’s Hospital.
Police reported that around 6.50 p.m, officers of the West End Police Station responded to a report of a disturbance at Agnesfield Farm Road, Rich Plain.
Police were told that Marchan had been threatening his neighbours.
When two constables confronted Marchan, police said he armed himself with a broken bottle and a knife and attacked them.
Police said both of the officers sustained wounds to their legs.
Back up police officers responded, and one of them shot Marchan in the chest.
He was taken by ambulance to the St James Medical Center where he was treated, but later succumbed to his injuries.
The two officers who were wounded were treated and discharged.
