Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, tonight gave instructions to charge a 24-year-old man with the murder of British cricketer, Adrian St John, 22.
Investigators reportedly went to the DPP late this evening with a file on one suspect they had in custody. After reviewing the file, Gaspard gave instructions to charge the suspect with the murder.
John, who was vacationing in Trinidad since Carnival, had gone to Mount D’Or last Sunday with two relatives. While his relatives were retrieving another, two men approached and robbed them of cash and jewelry. One of the men ordered St. John to drive away. Seconds later, a shot rang out and St John was shot in the back of the head.
John who played cricketer with the Chris Gayle Academy in London, was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he died.
A man went to the St Joseph Police Station on Tuesday and gave the police vital information. Following enquiries, one suspect was arrested. He will be charged and will appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Monday morning.
