Kamla on Colm: “Same old, same old”

“Same old, same old” is how Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar branded the Government’s new budgetary measures.

Persad-Bissessar accused the Government of not having a plan for dealing with the current difficult financial times.

She claimed Finance Mnister Colm Imbert merely repeated certain measures which he had previously announced in his October 2015 budget.

“It is the same ananacy story,” the Opposition Leader said.
“This is a tax-and-spend government,” she slammed.
She added: “There has been no implementation of measures to increase revenue streams.”
She also claimed the Government has not undertaken the public consultations it had promised.

She criticised the Government on plans to revise GATE and for not granting $1 million to families of slain police officers.

Persad-Bissessar said the Government bought paintings but could not put mechanisms in place to issue the grants to families of lawmen.
She said the increase in diesel prices will send up the cost of living.
No budgets and timelines were revealed for the construction of highways, she stated.
She questioned the Government’s proposals for financial borrowings.
Persad-Bissessar also claimed the Government does not have a legislative agenda, stating that in the comparative period of her administration, 18 measures had been taken to Parliament.
