Finance Minister Colm Imbert has assured that the Government will not permit the national currency to depreciate.
Imbert told Parliament Friday that since last September, the currency had declined by 3.7 per cent – from $6.37 for US $1 to $6.61.
He said the Government will not allow the dollar to slip beyond another 3.3 per cent.
That will be done through several monetary measures, he said.
For the first three months of the year, the Central Bank had released US $300 million in foreign exchange, the Minister said.
He said the country has 11 months import cover, which was more than several regional countries.
