Four days after he was reported missing, hiker Richard Baird has been found…..dead!
His body was found on Tuesday afternoon.
Baird, 56, a Petrotrin employee, of Rousillac, was found at around 12:15 p.m.
He had been lost on what was described as one of the most difficult hiking trails in the country.
Baird’s body was found by one of the search parties on the right side of the ridge leading to the Hollis waterfall.
Members of the search party, along with the police and fire officials are attempting to recover the body and move it to the Forensic Sciences Center, Federation Park for an autopsy.
Police are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine how Baird died.
Baird went missing while headed to the Aripo waterfall in the Northern Range on Saturday. Search teams had been searching the trails since he was reported missing at around 5 p.m Saturday.
He was one of a group of 60 hikers on their way to the falls, which is about a four-hour walk.
More than 40 people were involved in the search on Monday including members of the protective services.
The Fire Service Search and rescue team rappelled off the cliffs at locations where they suspected Baird could have fallen.
