For sexually assaulting 3 parishoners in Canada …”TRINI PASTOR JAILED”

Spread the word
Trinidadian Bishop Wayne Jones was slapped with an eight-and-a-half-year sentence on Thursday for sexually assaulting three parishoners.

“The peace, harmony and love that Mr. Jones should have been spreading by example through his elevated status was instead replaced by a narcissistic, selfish poison fuelled by his desire for sex and the enjoyment of power and control,” Justice Suhail Akhtar said in passing sentence against Jones.

Akhtar convicted Bishop of three counts of sexual assault, two counts of administering a noxious substance, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of theft, and one count of fraud over $5,000.

The Crown had sought 12 years.

Jones, 57, preyed upon a pair of sisters between 1988 and 1992, and a third woman, now 46, known as B, from 2010 through 2014. Jones also stole $20,000, jewelry and a car belonging to the boyfriend of B, the first victim to come forward.

All three victims’ identities are covered by a publication ban.

After the sentence, the judge praised the three victims for showing “an immense amount of courage for coming forward.”

“Today was the day these victims chose freedom, chose to speak the unspeakable because it doesn’t matter if it’s been 24 hours or 24 years,” Crown attorney Cara Sweeny said.

Akhtar described how Jones used his position to manipulate the victims.

“Posing as a spirit known as the Gorgon, Mr. Jones deceived B. into handing over money and valuable jewelry, and agreeing to sex in order to rid herself of a fictitious curse,” said Akhtar.

At the trial, Jones insisted was not bragging, but simply confessing to having simultaneous affairs with two sisters,  one of whom was living with the holy man and his wife.

“I’m not proud of it,” Jones said repeatedly during his testimony. He denied allegations that he sexually assaulted four female parishioners or defrauded some of their cash.

He had pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault and fraud.

Jones said the sexual relations — including the simultaneous sibling affairs, which lasted some 18 months — were all consensual.

And he called allegations that he drugged and raped one alleged victim a complete “fabrication.” The woman’s story shocked him since he and that woman were in “love,” so he was dumbfounded that she laid charges against him, Jones added.

The bishop also declared his church never engaged in exorcisms or any voodoo practices. And he has never acted as a medium, as alleged, court heard.

“We would be the laughingstock of Baptist churches if we did that,” Jones added.

A fourth victim told court she turned to Jones for help after a jealous Montreal psychic  placed a curse on her by sleeping with seven voodoo practitioners in Cuba.

Jones prescribed only one cure: Sleep with him, she testified earlier.

She testified she had sex with Jones some 30 times and he bilked her and her drug-dealing boyfriend out of $20,000 (he repaid $1,000), her boyfriend’s $5,000 car and some of his jewelry, between Jan. 1, 2010 and May 1, 2013.

Jones said he invited the younger sister and her two sons to live at his home in 1990. He helped her get a job at the auto plant factory where he worked at the time and they commuted together, court heard.

While his first wife, Debra Jones, worked two jobs, the bishop spent lots of time alone at home with the woman, separated from her husband in Trinidad, court heard.

Jones’ wife Debra caught them in the act,  the first time Jones and his live-in mistress made love on the living room floor.

The wife promptly booted the single mom out. The affairs with both the Scarborough woman and her elder sister continued, said Jones.
