The body of missing woman police constable Nayasha Joseph has been found.
The gruesome discovery was made shortly before midday on Wednesday.
According to reports, a fisherman spotted a bag in the Gulf of Paria just off the mouth of the Caroni River.
After checking, he realized it was the body of Joseph, 22. He then called the police who together with the Coast Guard, rushed to the scene.
Because of the state of decomposition, police were unable to say how she died.
Joseph who was attached to Morvant Police Station, went missing last Thursday after telling her mother she was going out on police business.
A missing person report was filed. Police searched Sea Lots and Beetham for Joseph. It was only after they got vital information, the search moved to the Caroni River on Wednesday.
Joseph who joined the police service last November was the mother of a four-year-old daughter.
Since her disappearance, police have a 39-year-old Sea Lots man in custody.
The woman’s body was retrieved and brought ashore at the Port of Port of Spain.
