Escaped prisoner Sheldon Lendore was shot dead during a shootout with police on Wednesday.
According to reports, police saw Lendore in La Brea around 5 pm and pursued him. In an ensuing battle, Lendore was shot and killed.

Lendore, 37, of Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, was on remand after appearing in court on several charges of firearm and robbery offences. Police described him as a dangerous criminal with a history of violent crimes and several convictions to his name.

On August 23 Lendore complained of feeling unwell, suffering from light-headedness and coughing. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope. He was then taken for an examination and then admitted to Ward 5 where he was handcuffed.

The prison officer assigned to guard him reported that he escaped the next day with his handcuffs still on. Lendore had not been seen again until Wednesday and police believe he chose to return to Point Fortin, where his daughter lives.
