Police shot and killed three bandits who went to rob a furniture store at Dino Street, Cunupia, on Tuesday afternoon. A fourth bandit escaped.

According to reports, shortly after 5 pm, Subratee Mohammed who owns the furniture store, was at his business place when four men barged in and announced a hold-up.

Mohammed was robbed of cash, a cellphone and jewelry. As the bandits fled, Mohammed alerted Central Division police and officers went to a swampy area at Egypt Trace, Enterprise, in search of the bandits.

As the officers came upon the four bandits, a shootout ensued. When the shooting stopped, three of the bandits were found with gunshot wounds.

All three were taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre where they were pronounced dead on arrival. A fourth suspect managed to escape. A pistol and several rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.

None of the stolen items were recovered.

Police cordoned off Enterprise as they searched for the escaped bandit.
