Contractors still to get paid

Spread the word

Contractors are still to be issued the long-outstanding payments recently promised to them.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced on August 11 that some $300 million would be paid to contractors.

Large and mid-sized contractors say they are still awaiting the payments.

The sum is a drop in the bucket of some $2.4 million owed to contractors by the State sector.

Imbert has not revealed when further tranches will be issued.

A few days ago, Education Minister Anthony Garcia urged contractors to continue doing work for Education Facilities Company Ltd., (EFCL), even though they are owed a total of $800 million.

EFCL is engaged in construction, repairs and upkeep of schools and early childhood care centres.
