Charged with $89,000 fraud …”ANOTHER COP GOES TO JAIL”

A Special Reserve Police Officer was denied bail when he appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Thursday, charged with attempting to obtain $89,906.97 by false pretense.

SRP Stefon Rochford, 30, of Brazil Village, Arima, was also charged with uttering a forged valuable securit. He was remanded into custody after appearing before Magistrate Kerri Honore-Narine in the Port of Spain First Magistrates’ Court.

The matter was adjourned to Friday and transferred to the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court.

Rochford, who was last attached to the Morvant Police Station, is alleged to have presented a National Entrepreneurship Development Company Limited cheque for

encashment at the First Citizens Bank, Tunapuna Branch. Upon examination, the cheque was discovered to be fraudulent and officers of the Fraud Squad were called in.

He was arrested and subsequently charged.
