Burnt body found in Couva …”WAS IT THE MISSING TEEN?”

Spread the word
A burnt body was found on Tuesday in bushes off Rivulet Road, Couva.

Police are wondering if the remains are that of missing teenager, Anil Matagoolam.

Despite the discovery, relatives could say for sure if it was Anil’s remains.

The burnt out remains were discovered near the old Brechin Castle sugar factory, off Rivulet Road, at around 3 pm.

Police said blood samples would be taken from Anil’s parents to determine the identity.

Anil’s sister, Indrani Matagoolam, said, “We got a call at around 3 o’clock that Anil’s body was found. But when my dad got there he could not identify anything. It was just a skull and some bones. The body was burnt out completely. So we are still hoping Anil is alive and would come home.”

Anil, 19, of Rivulet Road, Couva, left his home on June 13 to visit his friends in the village and never returned.

Indrani said a police report was filed but relatives have also launched their own investigations.

She said her brother was employed at a chicken depot but had been on sick leave for about a month.

She said he had fallen off a truck and had since walked with a slight limp.

Indrani said relatives found out that her brother had visited his friends that day. She said his friends told them that the teenager received a phone call and left to go to California.

The teenager’s girlfriend had not seen him.

The remains were removed to the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park,  for testing.
