A Prisoner awaiting an appeal on a marijuana conviction, was stabbed to death on Saturday at the Maximum Security Prison at Golden Grove, Arouca.

The victim was identified at Nicholas Raymond, 23.

Police said around 10.30 a.m. Raymond was brought out to a recreational area along with other prisoners.

While the inmates were going through their exercise routines there was an altercation between Raymond and another inmate.

Raymond was stabbed several times by the other inmate who used a sharpened instrument to attack him. Raymond succumbed to injuries his chest and abdomen.

His body was removed to the Forensic Sciences Center, Federation Park, for an autopsy on Monday. Police have detained a fellow inmate for questioning.
