After much agitation, cane farmers are to receive their final outstanding payments from the government.
The sum is almost $58 million, according to the Ministry of Planning and Development.
The ministry said that 2,740 ex-farmers were previously paid $24.1 million.
The payments have been due since 2007 as part compensation to farmers with the end of the sugar cane industry.
The ministry said that discussions on the payout would be held with the former farmers.
Cane farmers have made representations on the matter for years.
