Three more murders have taken the tally to 260 for the year.
A Penal man was shot dead during a robbery at a bar at Golconda on Tuesday.
Capildeo Harrilal, 58, of Harrilal Drive, Sunrees Road, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A police report said that at around 8.20 p.m. Harrilal was liming with other patrons at Khanhai’s Bar on Cipero Road when two men dressed in black security uniforms entered the business place.
Police said the suspects pointed firearms at the patrons and announced a holdup.
The gunmen robbed a patron of a cell phone and a silver bracelet, and witnesses told police that Harrilal attempted to run out of the bar.
One of the thieves fired at Harrilal and he was shot on the left side of his abdomen.
The suspects ran away and escaped.
Meanwhile, the nude and bloodied body of a 51-year-old Malabar woman was discovered in the living room of her home by a close relative shortly after 7.05 pm on Tuesday.
According to police reports, Oscar Matther, 58, of Oropune Gardens, Piarco attempted to contact his sister Joanne John several times on Tuesday with no success.
At about 7.05 pm, Matther decided to go to John’s home at Harold Joseph Place in Malabar where he was alerted to a foul stench emanating from the living room.
Matther was able to gain access to the house when he discovered her nude body lying on its back with both two arms outstretched.
A report was made to the Malabar police and a party of officers along with detectives from the Homicide Investigations Bureau and the District Medical Officer Dr. Gopaul visited the scene and the body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
Officers found John’s home ransacked and there was blood in the bedroom and living room. Relatives said John lived alone and was on heavy medication. An autopsy done on the body on Wednesday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James confirmed that John was raped and her throat slit.
The cause of death was given as shock and hemorrhage consistent with a wound to the throat.
Police believe that John was raped in her bedroom where her throat was slit. Bleeding heavily from the wound, John still made her way into the living room when she collapsed and died from blood loss. Detectives carried out tests inside the house for fingerprints and other clues. Up to press time, no arrest had been made and Homicide detectives are continuing investigations.
