Two more murders were recorded – in Petit Valley and Kelly Village, Caroni.
In the first incident, police are investigating the murder of man who was shot dead at Ravine Road, Petit Valley on Saturday night.
Residents heard several gunshots and on investigating, they found Samaroo, 28, on the ground. He was dead. He had been shot several times. No arrests have been made.
In the second incident, a taxi driver who went missing after he left home to carry out a hire job on Saturday, was found murdered near his Caroni home on Sunday.
The body of Pooran Roodal, 47, was found in his car around 12.30 pm by his daughter who organised a search party.
Police confirmed his body bore marks of violence, but could not say whether they were gunshot injuries or stab wounds.
In a Facebook post, sister Sumintra Kubir said, “My brother Pooran Roodal left his home yesterday afternoon at around 5.45 pm to attend a (hire) work, at around 7 (pm) the person whom he was supposed to do the work for called saying he did not attend. Our family knew something was wrong at the time cause he never stay out after 6 (pm).
“My brother, sister and brother-in-law searched areas for him and no signs were found. This morning we found his car and his body not too far from his home in Kelly Village.”
Kubir said they were clueless as to why anyone would want to kill her brother.
She said her brother never drank alcohol, wore no jewellery and did not have not much money on him.
“We see no reason why someone would do this to him,” she stated.
Roodal’s niece demanded justice and asked users to share her post.
She said they called his cellphone number, but got no answer.
She said her parents and uncle searched for him without success.
When they found his body in a deserted trace off the Caroni South Bank Road, she said, “signs of murder and struggles were spotted.”
She said her uncle’s murder has left the family in an emotional state.
“Our family is having a very horrible experience. He was a very kind-hearted person,” she said.
The murder toll stands at 477.
